The surdo is an indispensable instrument in samba, as it creates the foundation for the rest of the band to build on. This 18-inch surdo is the middle sibling from the series, and it's called a marcador.
Meinl SUC18 18-inch Classic Surdo Drum: samba
The surdo plays an important role in energetic samba music. By playing the basic samba pattern on the surdo with a large beater, you ensure everyone stays in time, Tuning the surdo is very easy, thanks to the included tuning key. With their series of Classic surdos, Meinl really held on to the traditional Brazilian look of the instrument. Aluminium shells, traditional rims with countersunk tuning bolt heads and the Brazilian flag decal ensure that everyone knows where this instrument came from.
